-sigh- I thought I answered the whole relating to Dib thing in previous rant. Okay, here goes my answer.
Dib is the outcast. He has a bad home life: his sister and him don't get along, his dad doesn't know he exists and when he does notice him it's to point out his flaws. Things suck for him at school: he's bullied by the students and the teacher, and he has no friends. People think he's crazy despite the fact that he's saved everyone's butts multiple times.
Honestly, a ton of the kids who were into IZ fall into the 'outcast' category. Jhonen himself acknowledged that Dib was kind of like himself.
What's really endearing about Dib is that no matter what happens he still tries to save the world. Why? Why should he bother when no one backs him up or believes him? Because it's the right thing to do. Ya, he gets discouraged, just like the rest of us. But he still gets up, dusts himself off, and tries again.
Gir? How do you relate to him? He has nothing relatable about him. He's insane. He's stupid. He says random things and destroys shit. If you can genuinely relate to that you either a) are mentally disturbed b) are an idiot or c) purposely molded your personality and responses to be like Gir. Whichever of the above you are then let me say: Good job! You can't function like a normal human being! YAY!
I realize that last bit sounded abrasive, but it's the truth. If you walk around acting like Gir (stupid, destructive, and random) then no one's going to take you seriously. And I'm not saying this is a bad thing, even I get like this around my friends. But it's an act, I'm being entertaining. I don't actually think and act like Gir 24/7.
And I do like Gir, I think he's great. I think he's a bad rolemodel, but still great.
Oh, and Tak's laugh=really obnoxious.
Gir's brain is a screw, a coin, pocket lint, gum, and a paperclip I believe.
